Indonesia Trip

5 - 9 Dec 2007

This is my 1st trip to Indonesia to attend my cousin sister, Inggrid, wedding in Jogjakarta. I booked the flight 2 months earlier under Jetstar Airline. I was excited in addition to afraid, a day before the flight. Feeling excited because I can see my family and relatives very soon, and felt afraid because I will flying alone to Indonesia and I don't know what to expect when I reached there, though I have my aunt's and my cousin brother's contact number.

It was a raining day on the day of the flight. Sigh!!! Edwin took a half day leave to send me off to airport, 2 hrs earlier, before the flight which is at 1.40 pm.

The flight is quite pleasant except it has a slight turbulent cause by the bad weather. The stewardess were friendly. I had a curry puff and a drink during the flight. Yuck!!! The curry puff taste awful!!! The worst puff that I had ever had...

NEWater Plant Trip

It is a memorable and educational day today. My hospital, CGH, is conducting a trip to one of the NEWater Plant which is in Bedok. This trip is organized in conjunction with the Green & Clean Week in CGH. It was a last minute arrangement that I made. I decided to visit this plant just 1 day prior to the trip day. I called & managed to change shift with 1 of my colleague, agreed by my Nurse Manager.
There were 5 of us; Sister Aishah, Mommy Tong, Lu Yuan, Farhana & Me. We're getting ready by 3pm & went to the waiting bus, beside the A&E department. We're the first to reach & waited the rest in the bus. At 3.30pm, the bus we're on started the journey & we reached within 10 minutes later.
NEWater is 1 of the Singapore National Taps which has 4 plants. The other 3 plants are in Kranji, Ulu Pandan & Seletar. The other 3 National Taps are Local Catchment Water, Imported Water & Desalinated Water. All these National Taps has their own plants scattered around in Singapore.
The trip in the plant started at 4pm. We're invited into an auditorium where we were sitted to watch and understand abt Singapore's search for alternative sources of water & discover how PUB makes use of advanced technology to produce NEWater. After that, we're ushered into WaterWise Arcade to learn more abt water with a few interactive stations. What impressed me was that this arcade has a raft which we can sit on to experience the ride down Singapore's beautiful & clean water. It is a simulation ride with a screen where we can see the water & some building along the ride. You can feel the raft is moving up & down the stream.
What I like most is the NEWater factory experience where we were shown to how the NEWater is produced in 3 key steps; Ultrafiltration, Reverse Osmosis & Ultraviolet Filtration (water is pass through ultraviolet less than a second to kill the remaining micro bacteria). The final steps in the production is Conditioning where the pH of the water is adjusted. During the trip, we were given 1 bottle of NEWater to try out.
Finally, we're thanked for the visiting and shown the exit way to a beautiful garden with pond filled with 'Li Yu' fish. And each of us were given an apple!!!
Heh!!! This trip reminded me to the school time when my school made visiting trip to some factories for education purpose...... :-p

Busy & Sad Moment

13-16/10/2007
It was really busy days at work. Ward is packed with nearly half occupancy of pts.
Although total pts were low, the workload is heavy and tough. Almost all pts were bedbound and need nursing attention...personal hygiene & grooming, hourly parameter, hypocount monitoring, dressing and etc......
Huh!!! Not all that, the pt's relatives are also quite difficult to handle. The family members wanted we gave immediate attention to the pt. One of the very sick pt was mourning and groaning in pain at her operation site that her cry can be heard from outside. It was pain to hear that cry. She had been crying on and off since last few days even though she was in oral pain killer.
It was sad that she did not make it on 1 fine morning (15/10/07). She had a last breath when I just finished taking her hypocount reading. The monitor at the nursing counter showed that it has lost pt's pulse. Everything was so fast, doctor being called and resuscitation started. After almost 1 hour, it yield nothing to safe her. Family member were informed and they broke down...oh dear...
After a while later, I did a last office for her. All of a sudden, my tears started to fill my eyes. Very quickly, I sheded the tears away, afraid that my colleague EN noticed it. The pt had reminded me to my mother and out of a sudden I miss my mother so much...that it cause my tears running down without my conscious...
Later in the evening, while I was travelling in the MRT, my tears flow again when the pt's face reflect in my mind again. When I reached home later that night, I made a long distance call home and it was a big relieve when I heard my mom voice...Sigh!!!
And guess what!!! Another sick pt "left" within 24 hrs, the next day when I was on duty...

Been & Back From Surgery

It's been a while since my last post in my blog. I think it's almost 3 mths, since, I went for my eye surgery. Huh!!! It's not an easy period for me after the operation. I have to restrain myself from going outdoor due to dust and sunlight. Doctor's advice was to stay indoor for 1 mth...Sigh!! Thus, I was on hospitalisation leave for 1 mth...

After the op, I was very uncomfortable, groaning and moaning in the OT that the nurses and the doctor have to ask me why I was groaning. I felt nauseating and discomfort in my stomach, that was my reply to them. And I got an IV meds for that, which made me feel much better. I was then wheeled into the Day Surgery ward, B11. My Right eyes was closed up with eye shield and I can't open up my Left eyes. I can hear the nurses was giving instruction to each other and they finally put me to bed from the trolley and dressed me up with my own clothing. It reminded me to my own job which I did for my patient whenever they came back from OT room.

I was then fall asleep and Edwin was at my bedside, watching me and fall asleep as well. He he he....He said "See you sleep made me want to sleep as well". What he said reminded me to the Titanic movie, "You jump, I jump". He he he...he he he!!!

Awakened from my sleep, I have difficulty to pass urine (PU). I can feel that my bladder was distended but I just can't pass out the urine. The nurses suggested to use a few method like listening to water flow sound and drink some more water. I told the nurse, who brought me to the toilet, to let me use the squatting toilet instead of the sitting toilet. Sigh!!! I still can't PU. Well, the nurse finally advised me to go back to bed and she will serve me some hot drink and sandwich. It will help me to PU later, as what she said. Yes, it did. After the 3rd attempt, I finally PU. Yeess!!!! What a relief!!! Now, I know the importance of to observe a patient's urine output after the operation due to the effect of the anaesthesia.

I was discharged in the late afternoon after a few hours rest in the Day Surgery Ward. Both my eyes was cleansed before I went home. The nurse told me there were some bloods in my eyes when she did the dressing. EEek...I can imagine the blood flowing out from my eyes. Oh dear! The nurse also told me that the eye shield on the Right eyes can be open later at night, which I didn't. I only opened it on the next day when my aunt did the dressing for me. My aunt told me that there were still some blood in my eyes when she did the dressing. Both eyes appear very red. My heart dropped when I looked myself in the mirror. And Yes, they are really very very red. As red as fire, is what I can said. And I really prayed they will heal faster...

Game Day

It is my 2nd time to play ball games competition with my colleagues. (1st was badminton competition few mths back with Shahnaz). This round match is captain ball with 5 of us; Shahnaz, Farhana, Samantha, Noorlina and Me. Sister Aishah was a reserve and supporter.
It was an opening match and we went to practice 1 hour (5pm) before the match. Nearer to time, we were hoping that our opponent wont be showing up and we can 'walk-over'. However, 1 by 1 of them showed up and our dream of 'walk-over' shattered. Sigh!!
Finally, the match started (6pm) and we run up and down the court. Chasing, guarding and shouting each other for the ball. It was not an easy game for us. The opponent was strong. The court was big. Huh!! I was exhausted...everyone was exhausted...Finally, the 1st half game time was up. Manage to gasp for some air and get some water from water cooler...
2nd half game started. Mary Ann took over from Noorlina. Oh great! Our team appeared slight 'fierce' with Mary Ann. She chased, guarded and tried her best to snatched the ball. Heard from somebody outside the court shouted, "Be careful of No.13" (which refer to Mary Ann). At 1 point, I nearly tripped off myself but, luckily, I managed to balance up myself.
2nd half game time up and we lost the game...both team shaked hand and thanked each other. We left the court and headed to food court. Sister Aishah treated us drink and we chit chat about the games.
Well, though lost in the game, I am happy and satisfied as I can played for my team before my op next week. And I know, we already tried our best in the match. My colleagues will play a much better games next round next week. They already planing for the training schedule and look out who will play in the next round. I gave them moral support...Go go go Ward 17!!! You can do it!!!

Movie Day

15 July 2007. Wake up early today and went to JB with Edwin to watch marathon movie; Harry Potter and The Order of Phoenix & Transformer. Reached there on time to collect the movie ticket. Quite worried at first, cos the counter girl told me that only Transformer tix was booked earlier. Oh no!! The Q was long and in my mind, I thought we're not going to get the Harry Potter tix. Phew!!! Luckily, she checked and there still seat and we managed to get the tix.

This episode of Harry Potter was quite boring at the middle part. However, I do enjoyed the ending. Overall, the rating is satisfactory. As for Transformer, I do enjoyed the whole story. I like the main actor, Sam Witwicky, for his innocent look. And the, Bumble Bee, the yellow Camaro is my favorite. Overall, it is a must watch movie for those who likes exciting and thrilling movie.
